Heydar Aliyev Avenue is an avenue in Nizami district of Baku. In the past, the avenue (together with Khatai Avenue, which was later separated from it) was called Balakhani Highway, after the name of Balakhani, a large settlement located near the highway at the exit from the city. In the post-war era, Balakhanskoye highway was named Moskovsky Avenue. In 1955, on the section crossed by the railway line, a 20-meter wide overpass, unofficially called "Bagirov Bridge", was put into operation - one of the brightest objects of transport architecture of Soviet Baku, made in the style of Stalin's Empire.
