Montreal Canadiens and WHA Legend J.C. Tremblay Deserves to be in the HHOF. Here are 5 Reasons Why.
The late J.C. Tremblay deserves to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
He was member of five Montreal Canadiens Stanley Cup Teams, a seven-time NHL All Star and, perhaps, the greatest defenseman in the history of the WHA. Still, Jean Claude Tremblay has been ignored by the Hockey Hall of Fame.
In this video we reveal the 5 top reasons “JC Super Star” should be enshrined in Toronto:
Championships:
JC was a key player on 5 Montreal Canadiens championship teams and won one more with the WHA Nordiques. In his 21-year career, Tremblay’s teams made the playoffs 18 times.
Post Season Prowess
JC Tremblay elevated his game during the post season.
In 1965 J.C. led all playoff scorers with 9 assists in 13 playoff games as the Canadiens won their first Stanley Cup in five years.
And in the 1966 playoffs he was considered to be the Canadiens best player scoring 2 goals and adding 9 assists in 10 playoff games as the Habs won their second straight Stanley Cup.
In the 1969 post season , J.C. was again outstanding, scoring 9 points in 13 games. To clinch the Cup in the deciding game 4, J.C. set up Henri Richard for the tying goal, and four minutes later he scored the Stanley Cup winning goal.
Tremblay earned his his fifth Stanley Cup ring in 1971 as the Habs stunned Bobby Orr and the powerful Boston Bruins in a 7-game quarterfinal series that fans in both cities will never forget.
Elite Skills
A specialist on the penalty kill, Tremblay also quarterbacked the NHL’s most potent power play -- and in 1971 he broke Doug Harvey’s Canadiens record for points scored by a defenseman with 63.
NHL All Star
JC Tremblay played in seven NHL All-Star games
He finished in the top 5 in Norris Trophy voting FIVE TIMES
In 1968 he was the runner-up to Bobby Orr for the Norris Trophy.
In 1971 Tremblay joined Orr on the NHL’s first all star team
WHA Legend and Summit Series Standout
JC jumped to the World Hockey Association in 1972 and played all 7 WHA seasons earning league All-Star honors each year from 1973-76. He was the only player ever voted as the league’s top defenseman twice , winning in 1973 and again in 1975. His 89-point seasons in 1972-73 and 1975-76 were far and away the highest point totals among defensemen in league history.
In the 1974 Summit Series, Tremblay was named Team Canada’s captain, led all defensemen in scoring and earned international acclaim for his stellar play.
Tremblay retired prior to the Nordiques joining the NHL in 1979. Still, the NHL Nordiques retired his number three in tribute to his WHA exploits.
In 2012 No less than coaching legend Scotty Bowman had Tremblay rated quite high (#51) on his all-time top 100 Canadian-born players list, ahead of the likes of HOF defensemen like Pierre Pilote, Tom Johnson, Jacques Laperierre, Paul Coffey and Larry Murphy among others.
The legendary Guy Lafluer calls Tremblay's Hall of Fame omission a “disgrace” -- and we agree.
It’s time JC Tremblay takes his rightful place among the game’s greatest players -- in the Hockey Hall of Fame.
JC passed away from kidney cancer in 1994.
