French President Jacques Chirac and two top ministers left European Council meeting in March 2006 when French president of Union of Industrial and Employers' Confederations of Europe (aka BUSINESSEUROPE) announced that he would speak in English because it was « the language of business ».
Here Jacques Chirac explains that the issue concerns « not only the national interest but also the cultural interest and the interest of the dialogue between cultures. We will not create tomorrow's world based on one language or one culture. That would be a dramatic regression. »
