Porsche's abandoned V8 'Super Turbo' 911 project: up close to the only prototype left!

Mention the term '965' and a Porsche aficionado might suggest you're referring to a 964 Turbo. However, the 965 – late renamed 969 – was in fact an internal model designation for a significant new super sports car Porsche was developing. The 965 was set to sit between the 911 Turbo and hallowed 959, and would have made headlines for two reasons: its was to be water-cooled, and there would be no flat six in the back of it, Porsche instead developing a V8!

However, the project was canned, and only one prototype remains – the very car you see here. In this special video we explore the finer details of the Type 965, why Porsche decided to abandon the project, and why it still played a big role in the manufacturer's future.
