Flying a drone in freezing cold - Winter Polar Vortex Shots in Subzero temps - weather compilation

Compilation of #drone #video shot in #winter #weather with #freezing #cold air. All shots were conducted in subzero temperatures. I decided to put this together after many people have been asking about my drone shots in winter weather. The battery does have reduced life. However, with proper preflight warming of the battery and a little modification the drone is still quite capable. Flight times were generally only reduced by about 10%. The only modification was wrapping a thin piece of neoprene around the center of the drone covering the battery with two pieces of tape securing it tightly. This allowed the heat generated from the battery to be insulated and be self warming.

Shot locations include Rochester, MN at -27 degrees.
Chicago, IL and Lake Michigan at -17
Artic Circle, Alaska temps from -5 to -25
Milwaukee, WI temps -5
Minneapolis, MN temps -13

Shots were from #polarvortex storms in 2017, 2018 and in the Artic Circle in 2021.
