Red Dead Redemption 2 Course Trailer

Course: History, Morality, and Ethics at the Dawn of the 20th Century: Red Dead Redemption II.

This course weaves together philosophy, history, and the video game, Red Dead Redemption 2. Students will play the game and reflect on how it relates to “late” turn-of-the-century US Western history. Moreover, students will explore a variety of ethical and moral issues throughout the game. “Office hours” will be inside the online version of the game (we will meet as a posse).

As an interdisciplinary courses using an open world third/first person action RPG, it will allow students to “enter” a popular version of history and critically evaluate how it represents the past—while forcing us to contemplate the morals and ethics of our own actions as the main character, Arthur Morgan.
