A volunteer group in Hong Kong has been rescuing turtles that were freed into the wild as a ‘mercy release’. The practice stems from a Buddhist belief that freeing animals brings good fortune. But experts say it could do more harm than good because the turtles often get hurt or even die after being left in waterways.
