Yamaha MT 09 vs KTM 890 Duke R - The Ultimate middleweight naked shootout | KNOX armour

In our biggest test of the year, we put 2 of the best middleweight naked bikes head to head. The 2021 KTM 890 Duke R currently wears the crown of the sharpest of the bunch available in our opinion, but are promises made by the all new 2021 Yamaha MT 09 enough to knock it off its podium. We spent 2 weeks trying to find out.

The KTM 890 Duke R is locked and loaded and defines KTM "ready to race" clearer than any other machine, its WP suspension clad chassis unmatched by another other bike in the market and is powered by the snappiest parallel twin ever to come out of Austria!

The 2021 Yamaha MT09sp takes another approach, the legendary CP3 triple, heavily revised for 2021 with electronics to match, represents the "Dark side of Japan" with a major speciality in back wheel antics! But for the MT09sp, its not all about hooliganism and performance, the bike proved itself all things to all people, with a flexible nature that few machines in the industry can match.

2 incredible machines, 2 polar opposite ways of getting there, and both very deserving of a place in your garage! They are testament to how good the naked motorcycle sector has become, and how lucky we are to be riding in 2021!
