I Built a College Assignment Tracker in 30 Min — No Code Written by Hand

I built a full-stack Assignment Deadline Manager in under 30 minutes — but more importantly, we built "The Smart Engine".

Have you ever wondered how an app knows to turn a deadline "Red" when you only have 2 days left? In this video, we trace the exact path from a raw stored date in a database, up through a smart backend sorting algorithm, to dynamically coloring the UI in React.

Here's how: I described what I wanted in plain English. The AI designed the data model, built the backend engine, coded the Tailwind CSS logic, and even generated an automated test suite to verify the date math. You don't need to know databases or code to follow along.

This is Day 5 of the 11 Apps in 11 Days Challenge: one real-world app, 30 minutes, built with Agentic AI — every day.

📖 BUILD ALONGSIDE THIS VIDEO:
The complete step-by-step guide (all prompts, copy and paste) is here:

Open it on your second monitor. Pause after each chapter. Run the step yourself. Then resume.

In this video:
✅ Step 1 — Architecture: Mapping the Engine (Screen → Backend → Vault)
✅ Step 2 — Project setup: Why clean structure guides the AI
✅ Step 3 — Requirements in plain English — Designing the blueprint
✅ Step 4 — Human vs AI leverage check & generating the app
✅ Step 5 — Powering on the database, backend, and screen
✅ Step 6 — Live Demo: Adding dates and watching the Engine sort them
✅ Step 7 — Verification: Opening the vault with DBeaver GUI
✅ Step 8 — Automated test suite: 5 green checkmarks for our sorting logic
✅ Step 9 — Enhancement: Formatted "Days Remaining" badges

⏱️ HUMAN VS AI CHECK: Building this App manually (APIs, Database schemas, React date-math, Tailwind UI) would take a human developer 2 to 3 days. In this video, we generate it in 30 seconds by simply describing the rules.

💡 KEY INSIGHT: The database is dumb — it just stores raw dates facts like "2026-10-15". The backend is the smart engine — it calculates urgency and sorts the list. Separating these concerns is how real scalable software is built.
