Now that the computer has been constructed, Joe introduces a renowned industrial designer (and former lover) Simon Church to the team to tackle the Cardiff PC’s design. Gordon and Joe clash over what the PC should be called; Joe suggests the name “Contrail”, which Gordon finds inappropriate. Gordon believes that his behaviour chased Church off, but it was actually Joe's relationship with Cameron.

From Season 1 Episode 7 "Giant": Bosworth learns that the PC division is almost out of money, and would eventually bankrupt the company. Joe brings in the renowned industrial designer (and former lover) Simon Church to design the Cardiff PC case. Joe reveals the PC's name, the "Contrail" and Gordan disapproves. Donna accompanies her boss on a business trip and lets Cardiff's PC plans slip. Joe and Simon confront each other about their breakup.
