Whitney Houston - Looking Back, Part 1 - Family Musical Heritage

This is part one of a four part slideshow which takes a look at the extraordinary family musical heritage of Whitney Houston. In an age of professionally shot videos and high quality films that even your Grandma could upload, this simple slideshow does not compare with any of them------------------AT ALL (lol).

Created almost a decade ago on my old Windows 98 computer, all photos featured in the video were from my personal book and magazine collection as I did not have internet access at the time. Also, the video quality had to be cut in half as my old computer had very little space to accommodate high quality videos. So, with that said, the star of the show is THE MUSIC. Miss Houston's gift is on full display, and although she only appears briefly in part one which is dedicated to her iconic musical heritage, her musical predecessors were all topnotch vocalists and performers. From the down home hand clapping & foot stomping gospel music of The Drinkard Singers in the 50's, the sophisticated and polished pop music of Dionne Warwick in the 60's, the stirring and soulful music of The Sweet Inspirations, Dee Dee Warwick and Cissy Houston throughout the 60's & 70's, the adult contemporary MASTERPIECES of Dionne Warwick in the 80's and right back to that down home gospel music of Cissy Houston in the 90's, IT'S ALL HERE, and what a glorious ride through musical history it is. Personally, I'm a HUGH fan of all of them and only wish they received more credit for their musical artistry. While Whitney will forever continue to receive the fame, notoriety and glory, she will forever have Cissy Houston, Dionne Warwick, Dee Dee Warwick and so many others for paving the way. Hers is a gift passed on throughout the generations, and as you will see in parts 2, 3 & 4, it's a gift few will ever receive in their lifetime. It's so great that they have chosen to share it with us, and now I'm honored to give you a small peak into the Whitney Houston musical legacy, and only hope that you will share it with others. Please know that each artist featured has an extensive recording catalog, so if you enjoy the music (and I'm sure you will) feel free to explore further.

Okay, on with the show!

P.S. Some may question why the music of Judy Clay (Cissy's niece, and Dionne & Whitney's first cousin) was not featured. She has enjoyed several Billboard hit records just like every other artist in the video (minus "The Drinkard Singers" and the backup vocalist's "The Group") yet there is no mention of her.

My sincere apologies to all who are disappointed in Judy Clay's musical legacy being omitted from this slideshow.

Unfortunately, at present, I have no plans to re-edit or update this video and it will forever remain a product of its time. Hopefully, someone else will create a tribute to Miss Clay and share it with us all, as she has made some wonderful recording over the years.
