Romanian election: Hard-right nationalist candidate projected to be in lead | DW News

Early results in Romania give hard-right nationalist candidate George Simion the lead, in the first round of a rerun of the presidential election.

Two centrist candidates are vying for second place and a spot in a likely run-off on May 18. Simion is projected to get around one-third of the vote in the first round. He's positioned himself as more moderate than the far-right, pro-Russian candidate who won in the election that was annulled over allegations of campaign fraud.
