IMF Fact-checks Rahul Gandhi, Donald Trump's Claim on Indian Economy

The International Monetary Fund has dismissed Rahul Gandhi’s claim that India’s economy is 'dead.' Speaking at a press briefing on January 15, IMF spokesperson Julie Kozack said India continues to be a key growth engine for the global economy. She added that the IMF has projected India’s growth at 6.6 per cent for the 2025–26 fiscal year in its Article IV staff report. The remarks directly contradict Rahul Gandhi’s July 2025 statement, where he echoed US President Donald Trump’s criticism and blamed the BJP for damaging the economy.
