360° Video: New Horizons Visits Pluto and Charon | California Academy of Sciences
Fly along with NASA’s New Horizons spacecraft in this stereoscopic 360° video of its brief encounter with the Pluto system—an immersive visit to the dwarf planet from our new planetarium show, "Incoming!"
After a nine-and-a-half-year journey, NASA’s New Horizons sped through the Pluto system on July 14, 2015. The orbits of Pluto’s five moons resemble a bull’s-eye, and the fast-moving spacecraft zipped through the “target” in a matter of hours. New Horizons gave us our first close-up look at Pluto and its moon Charon, surprisingly diverse, active worlds in the outer reaches of our solar system. Scientists will learn much from this brief visit, as they continue to study the wealth of data sent back by New Horizons.
For the latest results from the New Horizons missions, don’t miss Jeffrey Moore delivering the Academy’s Benjamin Dean Astronomy Lecture, “New Horizons, NASA’s Pluto-Kuiper Belt Mission,” on June 13, 2016: http://calacade.my/1XzYCCB
