The Ghost Town Ball trailer

In 1905, gold prospectors stumbled on to a rich quartz reef in a remote West Coast Valley and the mining town of Waiuta soon sprang up. Following the nine's sudden closure in 1951 as the result of a cave in, Waiuta became a ghost town virtually overnight.

The inhabitants of the town departed believing they would never meet again. In 1986 former residents decided to hold a reunion weekend amid the remains of the town. The highlight of the celebrations was the holding of The Ghost Town Ball.

In what is now regarded as a New Zealand film classic, producer David Sims and narrator Les Cleveland recapture the vigour and nostalgia of Waiuta's life, death and revival. Now digitally remastered by Graeme Moffatt, old film footage and loving memories combine to tell a story of hard but often happy times in 'one of the West Coast's great old pioneer towns.
