Willy Chavarria Collabs with Zara

Here we go again.
This time with a bit more detail and nuance though…
Mexican-American designer, Willy Chavarria is collaborating with Zara, on a collection that drops today*.
The designer who I known for outspoken political displays and performances, statements and intentional designs, has created a collection that blends characters from an explosive telenovela episode and the chaos from a Mexico City family.
The collection titled Vatísmo; “the superlative form of “vato”, a colloquial term used in the Chicano community that “celebrates friendship, camaraderie, and love; it speaks to personal bonds, the pride of belonging to a community, and the power of roots”.
But none of this means we should just accept this long line of both emerging, independent and established designers working with fast fashion, to aid their transition and rebrand their reputation and place in the industry while disregarding the nature of their business or problematic production.
