Tornado Warned Thunderstorm in Leander/Cedar Park, TX - 4/2/2017

Earlier that day, the Storm Prediction Center gave much of North-Central Texas a 5% chance of tornadoes along with damaging winds and hail (Williamson County was in the Enhanced Risk area on a later High Risk day). A line of storms fired to my southwest as predicted and headed northeast towards the Austin Metro area. Rotation was indicated near Kerrville, TX but later died off. As the line of severe thunderstorms neared, I prepared my recording equipment and set up once the storms came in close proximity to Leander/Cedar Park. I found myself getting so caught up in filming that when I got an alert on my phone for the Tornado Warning, I was caught completely by surprise as I had not been monitoring Twitter, TV, or radar for the past 5 minutes or so (goes to show you how fast weather conditions can deteriorate!). When I got the memo, my dad called me to see what was up and soon afterwards I called my friend Christian about the tornado threat heading towards our doorsteps. Around two minutes later, I took shelter with my chihuahua inside our understairs closet and waited for the worst. I soon heard pea-sized hail falling from inside the closet and waited until the hook echo had passed by my location. Relieved, I continued recording the heavy winds and lightning/thunder that followed from my garage. Thankfully, no tornadoes touched down in Leander/Cedar Park that day, but one DID occur near Lake Travis causing moderate damage. This storm system became more dangerous & deadly once it moved into Louisiana towards the evening. What a ride it all was, and it's only April!
