Corsair K100 keyboard teardown and switch replacement
I show you how to open the Corsair K100. At date of publishing there is not another video on this platform that shows how to do it.
This is the mechanical / traditional Cherry MX switches model (not the Optical OPX switches). I got the traditional Cherry MX mechanical version knowing I could/would replace the switches. Those who have the OPX switch version, there is no contacts to be soldered on these proprietary switches and since I do not own the Optical version, I have no idea if these are swappable. This is the beauty of the mechanical Cherry MX switches version, these are a lot of work to retrofit, but at least we know almost (if not) all aftermarket switches are compatible, which I can't say for current or future Optical switches.
I bought the keyboard for its features and layout knowing well that it only came with two gaming switch options, both linear with fast actuation, the new Corsair OPX switch with 1mm actuation and Cherry MX Silver with 1.2 mm actuation. I got the Cherry Mechanical version, because I knew I could replace those, and had zero information about this possibility for OPX optical.
Being a bad typer that does already a lot of typos on normal switches and being an electronics fan, with the proper tooling and years of experience and the clear challenge of a new project, I bought on the same day that I ordered the keyboard, the Holy Panda switches from Drop + Invyr. https://drop.com/buy/drop-invyr-holy-panda-mechanical-switches
I use my keyboards for work and video editing 90% of the time and game less than 10% of the time, so having speed switches is not an option for me, since it increases my typos (easy) by 50%.
By opening the keyboard, you risk voiding your warranty and also there needs to be at least one destructive step in the process, so do it at your own risk.
