Celebrate the differences, not just the similarities!

There's nothing better than when your teen reflects the best parts of yourself and everything you stand for.

So what about when your teen shows up as distinctly different that you, maybe reflecting the dark parts of yourself or family members you swore you'd never allow in your children?

You teen is SUPPOSED to be different from you, even if that triggers your fears and you react to shut those traits down by punishing or praying them away.

When your teen feels they need to hide, deny, abandon or suppress any part of themselves to feel safe with and loved by you, they seek other relationships who welcome all their weirdness - relationships you might not like and can't necessarily stop.

When your teen feels fully loved, welcomed, and delighted in (with boundaries of course) they experience true belonging and emotional safety and are far less likely to seek escape in substances and external validation in unhealthy relationships.
