Dave Portnoy on Social Media Pressure | Super Bowl Red Carpet

Dave Portnoy is a man who lives much of his professional life online, so I asked him how he balances the benefits of social media with the toxicity that can come with it.

His answer was candid. There is no perfect formula. Social media is part of the job, but he reminds himself that much of what appears online does not reflect real people or informed criticism. When it becomes excessive, he steps away for a period of time.

In high visibility roles, digital exposure becomes part of the performance environment. Feedback is immediate, public, and often anonymous. Without boundaries, it can distort perception and erode focus.

Psychological discipline requires filtering by understanding what deserves attention and what does not. Creating intentional distance when the signal becomes noise.

Sustainable high-performance increasingly depends on digital boundaries.
