Fake Social Network with Java, Spring Boot, Thymeleaf, HTMX and Coffee
Welcome to another Midnight Coder livestream 🌙☕
In this stream, we’re going to build a fake social platform called Midnight-Shift — a developer network for coders working the late shift. The goal is to demonstrate how a real Spring Boot application can consume an external API and render a dynamic social feed using Thymeleaf.
Instead of building a full backend from scratch, we’ll integrate with the JSONPlaceholder API to simulate real social data like users, posts, and comments. This lets us focus on application structure, templating, and UI rendering.
By the end of the stream, we’ll have a working social feed that includes posts, comments, and a clean centered layout — all powered by Spring Boot and Thymeleaf.
If you're learning Java, Spring Boot, or server-side rendering, this is a great project to follow along with.
What We'll Build:
💻 A Spring Boot web application
📝 A developer-style social feed
👤 User and post data from an external API
💬 Comments rendered under posts
🌙 A Midnight-Shift themed UI using Thymeleaf and CSS
Big thanks to the External API:
