Conversations With Ashley Jefferson || Capital One Supplier Diversity Mentorship Graduation
Yesterday was a day filled with nostalgia, gratitude, and excitement as I had the honor of returning to the Capital One Supplier Diversity Mentorship program, this time not as a mentee but as a guest speaker for the Graduation 4.0 ceremony.
Just two years ago, I graduated from the 3.0 cohort, and being asked to come back to share my journey was both humbling and exhilarating.
I had the pleasure of being interviewed by Julie Rake, the program lead, where we delved into my entrepreneurial journey – from the highs of expanding to three stores to the challenges of scaling back to one again. Sharing my story with the graduates was incredibly fulfilling, and I hope it offered them insights and encouragement as they embark on their own paths.
One of the key themes of our discussion was the significance of building connections and fostering a supportive community. Networking isn't just about exchanging business cards; it's about forging genuine relationships and nurturing them over time. I encouraged the graduates to seek out mentors, collaborators, and allies who can offer guidance and support along their entrepreneurial journey.
Something else I touched on was the importance of valuing oneself in the market. In a competitive business landscape, knowing your worth and confidently communicating it to others can make all the difference. I shared anecdotes and lessons learned from my own experiences, emphasizing the power of self-belief and resilience.
The Capital One Supplier Diversity Mentorship program itself is a beacon of support for Black and Latinx business owners. Through this initiative, they provide entrepreneurs with the tools, resources, and counsel needed to succeed in today’s marketplace. The program pairs local entrepreneurs with Capital One associates to develop sustainable models that accelerate year-over-year growth, profitability, and key operating metrics.
To the graduates of the Capital One Supplier Diversity Mentorship Graduation 4.0, I offer my heartfelt congratulations. You've worked tirelessly to reach this milestone, and your dedication is truly commendable. As you embark on the next chapter of your business journey, remember to stay true to yourselves, lean on your support systems, and never stop learning and growing.
I have no doubt that each and every one of you will achieve great things, and I am honored to have played a small part in your journey. Here's to your success, both now and in the future!
And many thanks to the amazing team at Capital One! You all have proven that Capital One is so much more than a bank. It’s a place where communities are fostered and relationships are built and strengthened. And I’m so honored to be apart of it all!
