City of Gangsters - Beginners Guide

Hi, I'm Valkorum and welcome back to the channel.

Today I am doing a beginners guide for the game City of Gangsters

When starting a new game, if its your first time then I highly recommend to play the tutorial - as it does provide you with great information on how to play. but... if you just want to jump straight in to the action then spend a few minutes watching this video.

Ok, lets start a new game.

You can choose from 3 map files, Chicago, Detroit and Pittsburgh but so far I haven't found any major differences in running any of the maps.
Your nationality does have a minor impact as you can get a bonus for matching nationalities. So choose what you like here
You can change your portrait and name so choose the one that suits you
Probably the most important part here is your starting skill. As you can see there are quite a few you can choose from. Here are 4 that I have found to be quite useful.

Getting Territorial - this is a great skill if you want to expand quickly as it decreases the initial cost of a front and reduces the time for a front to control a neighbouring corner. Keep an eye out for future videos as I plan to do a video just about fronts as this is quite an important part of the game.

Nice building you've got there - this reduces the cost of acquiring a new controlled building by 20% while also generating less heat from the cops. You need controlled buildings to build illegal operations such as breweries, distilleries and speakeasies.

Protection Rackets - decreases the displeasure of the owner and gives you more money per racket. Rackets are used to help finance your fronts

Street Brawler - increase your damage and chance to hit with non-firearm weapons. Early on in the game this skill wont benefit you too much, but can be a big help later in the game as you expand and encounter more gangs and hooligans

Ok, once you are happy with your choices - click on start.

When you first load in to the game, the fist thing I suggest you do is check your safehouse. You can tell which building this is by the grey corner outlines. All future controlled buildings will have the same grey border outline to make it easier to find them.

Click on your safe house and lets see what your legal business is producing vs what illegal operations you can start - each playthrough starts off differently and you can only build 2 out of the 4 or more backroom starting operations. If you want an easy start to the game then you can keep reloading till you get a business that produces something you can use to create illegal alcohol.

Here is an example of a good starting match. As you can see we have a fruit stand which is producing 8 barrels of Grape Concentrate every 7 turns. You then want to make sure that the Backroom Brick Wine Operation is available for you to build as this operation requires the Grape Concentrate.

This game is turn based so spend as much time as you want investigating what's required.

You will also notice that its going to cost you anywhere from $600 to $1000 to get your first illegal backroom operation up and running and you only start the game with $150, well, lets check your storage and see what you have in there that you can sell.

You normally get a few alcohol types that you can sell to make some money, which you can then use to buy your first backroom operation.

Once you have seen what alcohol you have to sell, its time to see if anyone is actually looking to buy this product.

There are 2 ways you can do this

One way is to drive around to each business and see what they are buying, but that will cost you movement points and you don't know if you are bringing the right alcohol with you.

The second way is to click on resource overlays in the top left hand corner and select the alcohol type that you have and see if anyone is buying.

If venues show up then head on over and sell what you can, if nothing shows up you will need to drive around to other businesses and talk to them

A really good tip here is if you have some standing with the owner then hit him up for a 20% increase in price. The standing is shown at the top of this screen
