JustAnswer Customer: I have a GE dehumidifier that has an error code: F2.
JustAnswer Customer: It won't run.
JustAnswer Customer: I called GE and their suggestion was to buy a new dehumidifier.
JustAnswer Customer: Can you tell me what F2 means and how to fix it, please?
machinc: Home Appliance Technician: F2 is a bad sensor code.
machinc: Home Appliance Technician: There are several sensors that could be the problem
machinc: Home Appliance Technician: The sensors run from $30 to $50 and possibly more.
machinc: Home Appliance Technician: That is probably why GE suggested you buy a new unit.
machinc: Home Appliance Technician: The cost of replacing a sensor without knowing for sure which one to replace along with the possibility of more than one being bad makes it codt feasible to just replace the unit.
machinc: Home Appliance Technician: You didnt say the age or size of your unit which of course would be a factor.
machinc: Home Appliance Technician: Before giving up check for anything that could be loose or out of place.
machinc: Home Appliance Technician: Also power down , unplug and wait about twenty minutes , then power the unit back up (plug in) turn on and see if it will reset.
machinc: Home Appliance Technician: F2 can also be a communications failure code related to sensors.
machinc: Home Appliance Technician: It is however not sensor specific leaving one not being sure which sensor to replace.
JustAnswer Customer: The unit is three years old.
JustAnswer Customer: It stands about 30" high.
JustAnswer Customer: It stopped working when the code appeared several months ago.
machinc: Home Appliance Technician: Any equipment exposed to moisture is subject to failure over time.
machinc: Home Appliance Technician: Replacing one sensor may fix the unit for awhile but another sensor is subject to also fail.
machinc: Home Appliance Technician: While it may sound like the company just wants to sell you another machine they could be giving good advice.
JustAnswer Customer: Ok.
JustAnswer Customer: I don't know average lifetime for a dehumidifier.
JustAnswer Customer: Is three years normal?
JustAnswer Customer: It was run pretty much every day.
machinc: Home Appliance Technician: Three years with every day use is getting close to the maximum expectancy.
machinc: Home Appliance Technician: The humidity of your home /area is also a factor
JustAnswer Customer: I'm in Florida.
JustAnswer Customer: Humidity is a constant factor.
JustAnswer Customer: The machine was used in the bathroom.
JustAnswer Customer: It's sounding like I got pretty good use out of it, then.
machinc: Home Appliance Technician: Three years is on the low end .
machinc: Home Appliance Technician: Some average 5 to eight Depending on brand and amount of use.
machinc: Home Appliance Technician: Florida can be very humid slong with the humidity generated by use of the shower and tub
machinc: Home Appliance Technician: Twentyfour hour use is also a factor .
JustAnswer Customer: Ok.
JustAnswer Customer: Then I don't feel so bad.
JustAnswer Customer: I thought it was a rip off but I probably worked it too hard.
JustAnswer Customer: Buying a new one is probably the best way to go?
machinc: Home Appliance Technician: That is whst I would reccomend
JustAnswer Customer: Great!
JustAnswer Customer: I'll look into that.
JustAnswer Customer: Thank you.
JustAnswer Customer: You've been most helpful.
