4th Of July Special: Holiday on the Cape
A Festive Fourth Of July drink reconstructing the classic Vodka Cranberry highball
In this episode I really wanted to try something festive but still balanced and fun to drink. It's difficult to make a red white and blue cocktail, or in this case Red and Blue cocktail without using all sorts of unnatural ingredients so I tried to keep that to a minimum. I thought it might be fun to give the Iconic Vodka Cranberry highball a festive update for the fourth and I also (because I am a bit of a nerd) wanted to use at least one ingredient that tied the drink to the Colonial Era which we celebrate on this holiday. To that end I decided to use a Shrub, a beverage which finds it's origins all the way back to Turkey in the 1500's and was the major way Colonial Americans preserved their summer fruit. It was, for lack of a better term the pre-soda Soft drink. In the past few years as bartenders have gotten more and more creative with ingredients, shrubs have found their way into the modern cocktail lexicon. Don't know what a shrub is? Watch the video and find out! and hopefully you guy's will be enjoying this drink because it is delicious! Have a happy, safe and responsible fourth of July you guys!
