Life abroad , living in germany , finding your people #trending #germany #lifeabroad #vlog
the real cost of staying indoors when you move abroad 🌍
nobody puts this in the “moving abroad” checklist.
not the visa guides. not the relocation packages. not the LinkedIn posts about “taking the leap.”
nobody tells you the hardest part isn’t the paperwork or the language.
it’s realising you’ve built a life — but not yet a world.
i moved to Germany at 24. i had a job, a flat, a salary. on paper, everything was fine.
but i didn’t know how health insurance worked.
i didn’t know where people actually bought nice clothes.
i didn’t know what to do on Sundays when everything was closed and i felt too far from home to call it homesickness, but too hollow to call it okay.
and then, slowly, people happened.
here’s what i wish someone had told me before i moved:
your support system is the infrastructure of your life abroad.
it’s who brings you soup when you’re sick.
who sits with you on grey November days when the sun sets at 4pm and your body misses everything familiar.
who texts “are you okay?” and means it.
and you don’t build that by staying inside.
i know Germany is cold.
i know the darkness gets heavy.
i know after work the last thing you want is to show up somewhere alone and speak broken German to strangers.
but luck has a surface area.
the more places you go, the more people you meet, the more possible your life becomes here.
not just your career.
your actual life.
so this is less career advice and more life advice:
go to the thing.
speak the broken German.
embarrass yourself a little.
let people surprise you with kindness.
build your people, not just your network.
because a life abroad without people to live it with is just a very long business trip.
and we deserve more than that 🤍
