Surgeon Spotlight: Dr. William Brownell, III

Dr. William Brownell, III, Foot and Ankle Surgeon at Penn Medicine, always had a desire to be in the medical field. As a division one athlete, he had to work with his own personal injuries. Now being on the other side, his profession allows him to help patients get back to an active and healthy lifestyle.

His focus is on foot and ankle surgery and lower extremity reconstruction. “I think everyone is looking to have an active and healthy lifestyle. There is not only a physical component but there’s also an emotional and psychological component,” said Dr. Brownell.

Dr. Brownell strives for his patients to become active participants in their care. Which gives them the tools for long-term success and quality of life.

The most rewarding part of his job: “Getting to know patients not only from a medical standpoint but from a social standpoint, seeing their families and getting them up and walking and back to an active lifestyle,” said Dr. Brownell.
