Prosperity and the Rise of Suicide - Viktor Frankl
Success and prosperity do not necessarily equal happiness -they can even have the opposite effect. In this live TV interview, Viktor Frankl, psychiatrist and author of "Man's Search for Meaning" explains how the increase of prosperity and security are contributing to the world wide increase of feelings of meaninglessness and rising suicide numbers due to consumer society ignoring the most fundamental of all human needs, namely the need for meaning.
Frankl and his approach called Logotherapy first introduced the concept of meaninglessness causing a specific type of neurosis ("noogenic" neurosis) and warned of the dangers of the common, reductionistic approach to mental health still predominant today.
