Convert Existing Number to Percentage in Excel without x100 #shorts

How to convert an existing number to a percentage in Excel without multiplying that number by 100. Add % symbol to a column of numbers by formatting neighboring cells as percentage and then using a formula to divide the number by 100. Copy down and reformat your sheet as necessary. Format your numbers as a percent without x100.

Do you have an existing column of numbers in Excel that you need to represent as a percentage?

Like, we want this to be 2.2%, but when we click the % button to format the cell, it automatically multiplies the number by 100. Since that is not what we want, I'm going to click Undo.

Now, what we can do is preformat the cell next door as a percentage, then we can enter a formula to divide our existing number by 100 so =A2/100 and hit Enter.

Double-click the auto-fill to copy down, hit Ctrl+C to copy, then right-click, Paste Special…Values.

Move our header over, delete the other column, re-format…and call it done!
