An 1850s Printed Cotton Dress || A Historical Sewing Vlog

This is a printed paisley cotton dress made with a yoked bodice. Aside from the yoke, it is nearly perfectly copied from an original silk dress in my collection. It features a pocket in the skirt, skirt lifters, and a front closing bodice which fastens with hooks and eyes. The sleeves are a moderately full bishop with a little capped sleeve at the top. The bodice is untrimmed save for piping throughout the bodice. The dress is finished off with a fresh collar and cuff set. To dress it up, I can wear a nice silk or velvet belt and a
nice bog oak or gutta percha brooch and/or earrings. To go out, either a nice corded or slat bonnet can be worn, or a nicer straw or silk fashion bonnet. To dress is down for work, a fresh white pinner apron or a white or printed half apron will keep the dress clean. In the video, the dress is worn plainly with four petticoats, including a corded one.
