TOGETHER WE DEFEND OUR MOTHER EARTH - ‘Mi Lak Tyeñ Kotyañ Lak Ña’Lum’

Recently the ejido Tila in Chiapas, southeast of Mexico, has had to step up their struggle against territorial and cultural dispossession. In this documentary, the commoners of Tila talk about how the ‘ejido’, or ‘common’, weaves together their ways of life, their social relations, their decision-making, their work, their cultural identity as indigenous ch’ol people, and their relations with their non-ch’ol neighbours. They talk about how those in power have tried to dispossess them, about their struggle against this, about their resistance to repression, and about why they have concluded that autonomy is their way forward.
