Lamy CP1 Fountain Pen Review: Minimalist Masterpiece?
This is my Lamy CP1 fountain pen review ( https://amzn.to/2S76cJR ). The CP1 is one of Lamy's classic fountain pens and it's one of the top choices for fountain pens under $100. It's very well made and it looks super cool.
While I like the build quality of the CP1 and the aesthetics a lot, this generally isn't a pen that I recommend. For me it's a bit overpriced at its retail price (MSRP is $60) and it's a bit too thin at just 9.5mm in diameter. There are some design shortcomings too, like a small gap between the nib and the grip area, a small plastic ring at the top of the body (I point out the holes in the video), and a plastic section. The pen is also a bit on the short side when you are using it without the cap posted at a bit under 12cm. It's very light too at under 20g with the cap and ink and under 10g when it's just the body.
The CP1 is well balanced and writes well when the cap is posted. It will work with any Lamy nib. The black model comes with the steel nib where the CP1 Platinum ( https://amzn.to/2FXCh14 ) sells for over $200 but does include a 14K gold nib. In the past there have been brushed stainless steel and white CP1 pens, but the vast majority of them are black.
Note: I'm not 100% sure what the cap and body of the pen is made out of. Some resellers say titanium but that strikes me as a bit odd. What I think is that the pen has a titanium oxide black coating, but the materials aren't predominantly titanium.
