SALLY HAWKINS Movies That Made Me 2014 BFI (17:16)

“Sally Hawkins has been shaped by films. In a candid interview with [DJ/presenter] Edith Bowman, she names the movies which still inspire and terrify her.”

“Whittling down her movie experiences into four very personal choices is Golden Globe winner and Academy Award nominee Sally Hawkins, one of Britain’s finest actresses.”

For BFI (British Film Institute) recorded on 7 November 2014.

The categories:
1. Guilty Pleasure: Labyrinth (1986) (starring David Bowie (1947-2016))
2. Repeated Viewing: Mulholland Drive (2001) (with Patrick Fischler and Michael Cooke)
3. Biggest Inspiration: Synecdoche, New York (2008) (starring Philip Seymour Hoffman (1967-2014), and with Christopher Evan Welch (1965-2013))
4. Personal Favourite: All or Nothing (2002) (with Ruth Sheen, James Corden, Marion Bailey, Sally Hawkins, Daniel Mays)
by American directors Jim Henson (1936-1990), David Lynch and Charlie Kaufman, and UK director Mike Leigh.

Although she doesn’t mention it, Sally did film with director Charlie Kaufman starting in April 2014 in North Carolina a rejected/un-aired hour long U.S. TV pilot, How and Why (2014) (starring John Hawkes), that was intended to become an FX (U.S. cable TV) comedy series (it would have been Sally Hawkins’ first and only American TV series). (“I love the fact that there’s this Charlie Kaufman movie that exists and nobody will ever see it.” - Sally Hawkins, November 2014) She mentions Dianne Wiest who played Ellen Bascomb / Millicent Weems in Synecdoche, New York (2008), and James Corden, OBE (today the star of The Late Late Show with James Corden on CBS, as Rory), Mike Leigh associate Marion Bailey (Carol), and Timothy Spall, OBE (all co-stars in ALL OR NOTHING (2002)).
