"Song About Shchors," also called "Fight Song of Commander Shchors," is a Soviet revolutionary and military song written by Mikhail Golodny and composed by Martevy Blanter, who also wrote "Katyusha," recalling the life of the Red Army war hero and martyr, Nikolay Shchors, a Ukrainian-born Red Army officer known for his bravery in battle slain in 1919. Nikolay Shchors as a commander in the Red Army gained a reputation for his bravery among soldiers, known for his preference to be at the front and to partake in battle alongside his soldiers, rather than commanding from the rear, helping win the 1919 Battle of Kyiv during the Soviet war to liberate Ukraine. A few months after the victory of the Red Army in liberating Kiyv, Shchors would be slain in battle while fighting against the Polish reactionaries.
