Track Width Explained - WIDE TRACK versus NARROW TRACK (and when to use them)

Tracks for your heavy equipment can come in all different sizes from narrow to wide. Today’s video will help you understand the difference between track widths and what track width will work best for the type of surface your vehicle is travelling over.

Standard Track
Good general-purpose track and often the most commonly used track for heavy vehicles. If you have a multi-purpose machine that will be used on various surfaces - hard dirt, soft soil, rocky ground, and so on - then this is your best bet.

Narrow Track
Best used for heavy vehicles travelling over hard surfaces or rocky ground. A narrow track increases the pressure the vehicle exerts on the ground. If you’re using something like a bulldozer this is essential, because it gives the machine better traction for digging. Works with excavators too, but it’s less important for that type of equipment.

Wide Track
If your machine is going to be on soft soil, loose dirt, or in muddy conditions you’ll need a wide track. The wide track distributes the weight of your heavy equipment across a larger surface area. This type of track will also cause less damage to the earth, so if that’s a concern then consider using a wide track.
