The Soweto Uprising Against Apartheid | South Africa 1976

In 1976, thousands of black school children risked their lives to protest an Apartheid educational policy. This event was known as the “Soweto Uprising” & was a key event on the way to end Apartheid. Along the marching route, the police barricaded the road and started shooting at the kids. About 566 school kids were killed or went missing. The images of the police brutality sparked an international outrage and economic sanctions which began the downfall of the Apartheid regime.
