Trauma, Art Therapy, and Expressive Arts Therapy | Why Expressive Arts?
Introduction to Integrarte Presentation for Brazilian therapists on November 21, 2020 explaining why going beyond the practice of art therapy and applying expressive arts therapy is essential in trauma repair and recovery. This is also an introduction to the implicit experiences found in expressive work and particularly expressive arts therapy to support self-regulation, social engagement, restoration of play and imagination, and enhancing resilience.
From the presenter: "You will hear me speaking very slowly in this presentation so that synchronous interpretation can take place for the Portuguese-speaking audience! And of course the film quality is low resolution because of the Internet connection."
Cathy Malchiodi, PhD, is psychologist and expressive arts therapist, author of Trauma and Expressive Arts Therapy: Brain, Body, and Imagination in the Healing Process [Guilford, 2020]
