As I talked about in yesterday’s weekly jobs report, 787,000 Americans filed an unemployment claim for the first time last week.

While this is down 19,000 from the previous week, these abnormally large initial unemployment claims are four times before that thing out there wreaked havoc on the economy.
Nancy Vanden Houten, lead U.S. economist at Oxford Economics, explained: “While prospects for the economy later in 2021 are upbeat, the economy and labor market will have to navigate some difficult terrain between now and then and we expect (jobless) claims to remain elevated.”

I sure hope that we can see the US economy bounce back strong in 2021, and can’t wait for the day to report initial unemployment claims under a quarter million.

Meanwhile, the Department of Labor is claiming that the weekly $300 FPUC extended enhanced unemployment benefits could be hitting bank accounts as soon as next week.

This is amazing news for roughly 13.2 million Americans that were at risk of losing their unemployment benefits.

But what about that extra $100 weekly payment for W-2s, self-employed or independent contractors? Unfortunately, it could take some extra time to implement these additional funds.

Multiple states including Florida, Illinois, Minnesota and New York have stated their intentions to provide these additional benefits, but have not included any payment dates.

Hopefully everyone out there that’s eligible for these additional $100 weekly unemployment benefits are able to claim them soon.

Finally, the great state of New Jersey has upped their maximum weekly unemployment benefits to help struggling citizens in the Garden State.

According to the NJDOL: “As of January 1, the maximum weekly benefit amount for Unemployment Insurance beneficiaries increases to $731, from $713.”

Additionally, maximum weekly payments have been boosted for Temporary Disability and Family Leave Insurance claims, as well as Workers’ Compensation cases.

This is great news for my viewers in New Jersey, and hopefully other states will follow suit and offer more money in weekly state benefits to people in need of some fiscal support.

If you still haven’t applied for unemployment assistance, start the new year on the right foot and apply today.

Check out your state’s PUA or UI website, show them your identification and employment history, and let them know that you’ve been out of work due to that thing out there.

For honestly and truthfully answering their questions, you could receive a backdated unemployment check for up to $20,000.
