Histidine is basic and nutritionally semi-essential amino acid
Histidine has an imidazole ring.
Its pK value is 6.1; and hence in proteins, histidine is responsible for the maximum buffering action
Importance of Histidine
1.Synthesis of histamine –
- Mediator of allergic reactions
- Potent vasodilator
- Increases the secretion of gastric juice
Metabolism of Lysine
Lysine is a nutritionally essential amino acid.
Lysine is ketogenic amino acid.
Its deficient in cereals
It contains two amino groups, neither of which can undergo direct transamination.
