Number 10: Wealthiest Family in Human History.
While you are unlikely to find many mentions of the name Rothschild in any of the world’s richest lists, this does not mean that they are not wealthy. Instead, They’re just really secretive about it. So secretive, in fact, that many people don’t even realize exactly how far reaching their control is!
Their vast fortunes have been spread over hundreds of hairs over the years, diluting any one person’s personal fortune. But, despite this, there are still an extraordinary number of Rothschild individuals with enormous personal wealth. British financiers Jacob Rothschild and Sir Evelyn De Rothschild have, between them, amassed over $25 Billion dollars. And, as they have always been wealthy, they have been responsible in one way or another for shaping the world as we know it.

As was the way with royals and noblemen at one time, keeping it in the family was a way of ensuring that wealth and power were not spread too far afield. Mayer Amschel Rothschild arranged many of his family’s marriages, so that if they wanted to keep their hands on their vast inheritance, they needed to marry their cousin… he believed this was the safest way to keep the money in the family and out of the hands of outsiders. But those inbred families could grow excessively large, with Mayer Amschel, himself, having five sons and five daughters to carry on the family line.

Number 8: Largest Private Zoological Collection.
Lord Walter, was passionate about zoology. As a child, he even collected animals and insect.
Disinterested in the family business of banking, his parents established a zoological museum in 1908, enabling Lord Walter to travel the world in search of new and unknown creatures. Along with the help of commissioned explorers he soon amassed the largest collection of animals and insects ever owned by a private individual.
He even had a carriage pulled by zebra!
Number 7: Diverse Business Dealings.
The family’s initial fortune was amassed in banking, but not just ANY kind of banking. In the late 1700’s, Mayer Amschel Rothschild found himself in a unique position to deal directly with the Crown Prince Wilhelm Landgrave of Hesse-Kessel, eventually earning the title of “Crown Agent.”
But today, banking is not all this family is famous for, in 1853 Nathaniel de Rothschild started a vineyard and winery. For the last 150 years or so they have been producing wine under the label Château Mouton Rothschild. this new venture caught on within the family and soon James Mayer de Rothschild brought the vineyard next door and began producing Château Lafite Rothschild.
Now the Rothschild family owns a multitude of wine estates in France; Château Clerc-Milon, Château de la Muette, Château Rothschild d’Armainvilliers, to name a few.
But it doesn’t end there…today they control some of the worlds largest mining companies, including the famous Rio Tinto Zinc Corp. The family is involved in many of the major real estate deals around the world, control much of the world’s energy resources, GMO’s and mixed farming, non-profit organizations…and they even helped to finance Donald Trumps famous Taj Mahal casino.
Number 6: Ties to the Vatican.
When Italy was not yet Italy, in the early 1800’s, a Rothschild bank donatee large loans to the Papal States, and the numerous kings of Naples, the duchy of Parma, and the Grand Duchy of Tuscany.
The unification of Italy in 1861, caused the Italian aristocracy to decline, and the Rothschild’s were forced to close their Naples bank.
But being the fastidious financiers that they were, when the Naples bank had to close they instead increased their ties with the Vatican Bank, an association that continued into the 20th century.
In fact, when Carl von Rothschild met Pope Gregory XVI in 1832, he was not even required to kiss the Pope’s feet, as would have been customary.

As has always been the case, when anything in the world requires a huge sum of money, a member of the Rothschild Family is there, ready and waiting. This was true in the 1850’s when they were involved in the construction of the Suez Canal, a vast 119 mile, man made canal connecting the Mediterranean Sea to the red sea through Egypt.
