How to play Shenmue on your Android device!

This is a step by step guide on how to set up the Reicast Emulator and play Shenmue on an Android device. In this video I used a Samsung Galaxy S5.

Things you will need –

1. Approximately 1.2GB of space on your phone.

2. Reicast Emulator (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.reicast.emulator&hl=en_GB)

3. Dreamcast bios (https://www.loveroms.com/extras/dreamcast-bios.php)

4. Androzip File manager (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.agilesoftresource&hl=en_GB)
5. Shenmue ISO (http://www.emuparadise.me/Sega_Dreamcast_ISOs/Shenmue/168)
Step by step

1. Create a folder to place your bios and Dreamcast games.

2. Download Reicast emulator.
3. In the Reicast app in the menu select path and then click on the top option where it says “System Path (location of the data folder with dc_boot.bin/dc_flash.bin inside” this will open another menu where you can browse and select the folder in which you want to place your bios. This will create a new folder titled “data” this is where the bios will be placed.

4. Search Google for Dreamcast bios, I used the top link “https://www.loveroms.com/extras/dreamcast-bios.php” where it will give you two options, click on the one that say “Dreamcast BIOS – Android (Reicast)”.
5. Once that has downloaded move it to the folder where the data folder was created, extract the bios, this will give you the dc_boot and dc_flash files you need, ensure these are placed in the “data” folder so the Reicast will be able to find them.

6. Make sure you close Reicast and then reopen it, the bios should now be working and you should be able to load them.
7. Now download the Shenmue ISO, I used the following link “http://www.emuparadise.me/Sega_Dreamcast_ISOs/Shenmue/168”. This is a 1.3GB file, so make sure you download it to somewhere with some space.

8. Once downloaded use Androzip File manager (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.agilesoftresource&hl=en_GB) open the app and find the Shenmue.rar file which you downloaded click on it and extract it.
9. It may come up with an error message at the end, ignore this and come out of that folder and re-enter it still using the Androzip app, you will see that a new folder has been created titled “Shenmue” enter it and inside you’ll see a number of other files with titles such as ShenD1.part01.rar, click on the top one and extract it to where you want your Dreamcast games to be.

10. Once this has been extracted you should have a file with the name ShenD1.cdi this can now be played with Reicast.
11. Open Reicast and select “Paths” once more and select the second option this time titles “Storage Path (location of .gdi, .chd or .cdi images” click on browse and find and select the folder where you placed the ShenD1.cdi file.

12. Return to the browser menu and underneath the title “Available Dreamcast Games” you should see the ShenD1.cdi file, click on this now and Shenmue will begin.

*If you get an error message when you try and start the game which states the memory card has not been formatted as I did in the video, come out of the game and click on “Boot Dreamcast Bios “which will load the Dreamcast menu, select the memory cards and then select “Delete All” this will wipe the memory card and it should work*
