Anna Ridler (UK). Visual Data and Artificial Intelligence: Artistic strategies in the age of NFT
British artist Anna Ridler, the participant of the exhibition “New Elements”, talks through her use of machine learning in a creative practice and gives a short overview of how Generative Adversarial Networks work (GAN), that she uses in her recent artistic projects.
Ridler explores the creative potential of datasets as a way of working and how AI can work not only as a tool but as a way of exploring concepts, focussing on her work The Shell Record, that was part of Sotheby’s first NFT auction, and The Shell Record: Proof of Work, presented at the exhibition “New Elements” in Laboratoria Art&Science in the New Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow, Russia).
Anna Ridler is an artist and researcher who works with systems of knowledge and how technologies are created in order to better understand the world. Her process often involves working with collections of information or data to create new and unusual narratives. Her work has been exhibited at cultural institutions worldwide including the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Barbican Centre, Centre Pompidou, HeK Basel, the ZKM Karlsruhe, Ars Electronica and others.
