AtlasLens Kaizen Series Anamorphic Lenses for Large Format Fuji GFX Sensors
Atlas Lens Co. discusses its anamorphic lenses, highlighting the new Kaizen series. This series is specifically designed to cover the large sensor size of cameras like the Fujifilm GFX series. The company, which has been producing anamorphic lenses since 2017, focuses on balancing distortion, resolution, size, and cost in its designs. Engineering for their products is conducted in Texas and Burbank, California.

HDMI® Technology is the foundation for the worldwide ecosystem of HDMI-connected devices; integrated with displays, set-top boxes, laptops, audio video receivers and other product types. Because of this global usage, manufacturers, resellers, integrators and consumers must be assured that their HDMI® products work seamlessly together and deliver the best possible performance by sourcing products from licensed HDMI Adopters or authorized resellers. For HDMI Cables, consumers can look for the official HDMI® Cable Certification Labels on packaging. Innovation continues with the latest HDMI 2.2 Specification that supports higher 96Gbps bandwidth and next-gen HDMI Fixed Rate Link technology to provide optimal audio and video for a wide range of device applications. Higher resolutions and refresh rates are supported, including up to 12K@120 and 16K@60. Additionally, more high-quality options are supported, including uncompressed full chroma formats such as 8K@60/4:4:4 and 4K@240/4:4:4 at 10-bit and 12-bit color.

The Kaizen series lenses are engineered to provide a neutral flare color, a characteristic demonstrated by the horizontal lines visible when a light source is pointed at the lens. These lenses are intended for widescreen cinematography on cameras with native 1.33 aspect ratio sensors. The series includes different focal lengths, such as the 35mm and 40mm models shown at the event.
A key technological feature of both the Kaizen and Mercury series is a patented anamorphic focusing mechanism, which Atlas Lens Co. developed. This new technology, the first of its kind in 60 years, uses a single moving element for astigmatism correction. This design is a departure from older systems, such as those used by Panavision or in the Orion series, which often use a diopter group in the front.
The primary advantage of this new focusing mechanism is the ability to create significantly smaller and more compact anamorphic lenses. A comparison was made between a Kaizen lens and an older Orion series lens of a similar focal length. The Orion lens, which only covers Super 35 with a 2x squeeze, is substantially larger than the Kaizen lens, which provides coverage for the much larger Fuji GFX sensor.
Atlas Lens Co. products, including the Orion 2x series, are available for purchase and are also widely available for rent globally for use in the cinema and film industry. The company also showed an experimental 65mm spherical lens prototype, demonstrating their ongoing development efforts in lens design.
