Program trains prison inmates to fight fires
Inmates from Montana State Prison make up what it known as the Deer Lodge crew. They are inmates that have been chosen to fight forest fires. About 26 men are being trained, and about 15 will go out on a fire. But not just any inmate can do this. Every year about 250 apply and only 35 will qualify because of the strict requirements.
