✭ 6' 4" Israel Mukuamu Dallas Cowboys Defensive back | Film Session ᴴᴰ

Mukuamu (pronounced moo-KWAW-moo) moved from South Carolina to Louisiana before his senior year of high school. He was at Parkway High School for only one semester, though, before enrolling at South Carolina in January 2018. Mukuamu was rated among the top safeties nationally, but coaches put him at cornerback to take advantage of his length and athleticism. He started two of 13 games played as a true freshman (17 tackles, two for loss, one interception). Mukuamu made national headlines with his performance against Georgia in 2019, posting 11 tackles and intercepting three passes in the Gamecocks' upset win over the Bulldogs. He led the team with four interceptions on the year, also posting 59 stops, two for loss, and nine pass breakups in 12 starts (one at safety). Mukuamu joined fellow secondary member Jaycee Horn in opting out of the remainder of the 2020 season shortly after head coach Will Muschamp was fired in November. He struggled with a groin injury throughout the year but started five of six games played (10 tackles, two interceptions) at cornerback and safety.

Overview
Rangy cornerback with unique combination of size and length that could allow him to play outside or over matchup tight ends. He has the strength and tools in press-man, but leggy transitions and modest recovery burst diminish his margin for error against the release. His wingspan makes him a human skyscraper who can hassle the passing lane in Cover 2 and fluster deep ball attempts in Cover 3. The instincts are average, making him less likely to jump a route than simply play what he sees. He's a capable tackler, but needs to amp up the aggression in run support whether teams view him as a cornerback or safety at the next level. Mukuamu has the potential to develop into a starter.

Fairly reliable as a targeted tackler in run game.
Centers and wraps ball-carrier when uncovered.

Weaknesses

Struggled some in coverage in 2020.
High-cut frame leads to leggy transitions from press.
Grabs and panics when beaten by sudden release.
Clunky footwork in directional change from pedal.
Interceptions often came when he was out of position.
Stop-start features brief delay before acceleration.
Not always a naturally aggressive player.
Lacked urgency with run support duties from safety.
