Dr Gladys Kalema-Zikusoka was a young vet working with gorillas in Bwindi’s Impenetrable National Park when she was called to an emergency operation in the forest where a gorilla, Kahara, needed her help. Despite never performing this surgery before, her actions that day would decide not only the future of Kahara but the group’s future silverback.
