India is opposing the China-backed Investment Facilitation for Development (IFD) Agreement at the WTO ahead of a key ministerial meeting in Cameroon, despite growing global support. The agreement aims to ease investment flows through simplified procedures and a plurilateral approach. India argues this may weaken the WTO’s consensus-based system, create imbalances between countries, and sideline critical issues like agricultural subsidies. With many nations backing the deal, India faces concerns of possible political isolation in global trade negotiations.
