Rottweiler Dominance body language v.s Cane Corso v.s Bull mastiff

This video feature an interesting (real-life case) study about dog dominance. Not so much aggression, aggression is a by-product. It's about who is the man? Who is the Alpha; Top dog.
If you are socializing your dog with other dogs or is taking your dog to dog parks. Stay tuned, for you will see some real-life examples that may help you to keep your dog safe in public places.

** Due to the comments, please note the person who pet the Rottweiler when it was challenging my Cane Corso was NOT the rottweiler's owner. People pet other people's dogs a lot there. The rottweiler's owner was nearby talking to another dog's owner at the time. (t all happened very quickly)**

Last Oct on a sunny day we have many dog owners who showed up at the local park. All dogs were happy and playing well together. You notice all the dog owner were keeping an eye on their dogs and that's a very good thing. The last thing you want is people tossing their dog in the pen and just leave them unsupervised with a whole lot of other dogs they don't even know.

Dogs are like little children, they usually play nice, but sometimes a daredevil or an ambitious one may try something else. Then a dog fight may break out. This can happen anywhere, anytime. So dog parents we need to know how to read their body language when they display certain behaviour we are ready for it.

The good news is our four-legged friends here are very open to express themselves. Kennel or public dog accidents can be avoided if we know them well enough.

In this busy dog park, it's all about fun fun fun for both people and dogs. Just like watching children playing in a big swimming pool. You can say we are a bit like parents being lifeguards, enjoying them having fun but also keeping them safe. Do you see anything out of ordinary?

After watching the dominant behaviour. We know an incident took place. What's important is, did we noticed anything cue before the incident.

Here you can see the rottweiler's puffed up its body posture as he walked into the frame. The way he looked at my cane Corso Vinci and how he displays himself tells us He is about to show dominance over my dog.

Besides the direct eye contact, it tried to securely place his muzzle on top of my dog while starring eye to eye to show dominance and observe my dog's response.

My cane Corso did not submit but he did not challenge him back either. He just walked away like he couldn't care less. The rottweiler was more about testing or challenging my puppy than playing. From here things can escalate very quickly. If you see this is happening to you your dog(s), at this point the owner's should intervene immediately and discourage such behaviour, if the dog pays attention to its owner this should be the end of it.

My cane Corso at the time was just a giant puppy, he wasn't even Left his hind leg when he pees, he squat and wee like a puppy. Being a big goofy puppy he didn't care about his alpha position or whatnot, he just walked away, which is a good thing, he turned around looked at the rottweiler and wandered off.

Then the rottweiler turned to the much more excited, high energy bull mastiff. This time he jumped right on.

The owner of the bullmastiff standing by was already being watchful because of their previous interactions earlier. As soon as it escalated he stepped in and stopped these big male dogs from hurting each other.

It was good, nothing happened. It was nice and peaceful after that.

All 3 dogs happily played and went home safe. Thanks to all the discerning owners who know how to read their dog's body language.

As you can see, it's good to know a dog's body language and know how to respond and intervene when necessary. This keeps the play safe, with no accidents.
