BUILDING a SURVIVAL ICE IGLOO | Ice HOTEL!

On our winter survival adventure we build a primitive ice igloo shelter out of blocks of ice cut out of the lake. If you want to see JUST THE BUILD: https://youtu.be/WHV_xMc3UsM

We use a large ice saw to cut the heavy blocks, pull them out, and drag them to the build site. When were finished, we had an igloo that could house 2 comfortably and even fish out of it. An Eskimo wouldn't build like this, but it's all we had! My Gear (Shop and Support): https://www.thewoodedbeardsman.com/

I am joined by Alex Peric and Zach Fowler:

This is no conventional ice igloo, but rather a combination of modern ice blocks and slush we found on the lake used as mortar. The igloo was so heavy that it made the lake crack as it was crushed by the weight of all the ice. A regular igloo must have super cold snow which is packed by wind and time to produce something more akin to bricks than the types of snow we have around these parts. We put the blocks of ice on a slight angle at first, but quickly realize that to keep the blocks from falling down, we'd need to make a flat top. At the rate of our angle, the igloo would be far too tall.

Zach ended up spending the night in the igloo, but I preferred the comfort of my warm cot in the hot tent. Igloos can get pretty warm, usually around 32 degrees and can be lined with animal skins or hides, and fur to keep the people inside them warm. The ice is an insulator, but also protects from the harsh cold. When no other materials are around, ice or snow is a good building material.
