We Are the World is a 1985 song written for charity, written and composed by American singers Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, produced by Quincy Jones and recorded by the USA for Africa ("USA" stands for "United Support Artists"), a supergroup of 45 music celebrities, mostly American. The funds raised by We Are the World, over 100 million dollars, were entirely donated to the people of Ethiopia, which was afflicted at the time by a disastrous famine.
